I. Overview

After that prologue the floor drops out and Senyan is pulled into the Nightmare Space, a contracting system that drops armed teams into the worlds of films and games. Dinosaur labs run by mad scientists, virus outbreaks, pirate crews, machine dominions, each cleared world pays out in points, gear, and the raw material of becoming something no longer human. Senyan’s gift is not flash but sheer stubborn durability that lets him stand in front of things meant to kill him and simply refuse to fall.

Around him a small crew forms, Zi with her crushing force walls, Mogansha with the long-range rifle, Reef as the shield-bearing wall, and the pleasure of the book is watching Senyan, the Sailor, out-think and out-last enemies a tier above him. Inside the Nightmare Space, Senyan’s team breaches a Jurassic-style facility where a madman brews hybrid monsters in vats of blood. The fight against the unfinished Bio-Beast Prototype is a wall of teeth, acid, and high-voltage death traps.

Again and again the book puts Senyan against creatures and contractors a full tier beyond him, then lets his grit and a battered dark-gold shield prove that survival is a decision, not a stat line.
